We left England and headed out over the North Sea. We had no encounters with Jerry until we neared the German coast; there, and all the way to Berlin, we were surprised by those bloody Me110's. Even though we didn't spot Jery until he fired his guns at us, not a single shot hit the Naughty Lass! When we arrived at Berlin, we spotted a Tame Boar Me109 and we got him before he could get us. I don't know exactly how, but Jerry AA got us in their sights and we were hit six times! The only damage seemed to be the starboard elevator quit working, and one of the fuel tanks on our port wing was hit, but fortunatly, self-sealed. We got the target with about 30% of our gifts to the Nazis and headed for home. Just after leaving the German coastline, we were ripped by a Jerry who came up on us … he took out our pilot compartment heat and put holes in various parts of our aeroplane. He came around again, we fired at him and missed, but he also missed us o n his pass and flew off into the night.
As I began to descend to 3200m, A shout came over the intercom, followed by the sudder of our tail guns. Goodbye, Me110! Got two of the buggers on this trip! However, he must of had a friend nearby as we were once again surprised about 115 km from base; but Jerry missed with his shot and must have headed for home.
We landed safely. Our crew chief tells me that our starboard wing root was damaged, either by cannon fire or flak, he could'nt say for certain. He did say the lads would have Naughty Lass patched up and ready to go for the next mission.
