PM014 Mission 53 AAR : Berlin

PM014, PO A. Kramden reporting. We were passing north of Enschede, outbound, when it all went wrong. Surprise attack by a 110 initially did little damage, but on his second pass he buggered the starboard aileron and killed flight engineer Ponting. Not much we could do for the poor lad, so elected to carry on. On approach to Berlin, another 110 jumped us, bollixing the tail turret and wounding Oranje, the WTO. I even saw one round ricochet off my control panel! Near shat myself. Flak batteries found us in a cloud break, knocking out the tail gunner's oxygen. We fought our way through three passes by a Wild Boar 109. Marquardt dropped 40% on target. Still needed Pusser back there in the rear as a spotter, so I dropped to 10,000 feet. That must have been the secret, as we did not take any flak nor encounter any further Jerries on the way home. Safe landing. (28 hits, 179 Peckham Points)
